Meet Our Franchisees: John Bluethgen

August 28, 2015

John Bluethgen always wanted to be a business owner; he just never had a specific type of business in mind.

A graduate of University of Buffalo, Bluethgen earned a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. He worked for a number of companies throughout the years, serving as a staff accountant, accounting manager, controller and vice president of finance.

“After college, you just end up working a bunch of different jobs,” Bluethgen said. “After my last job, I decided I wanted to be more in control of my future—I realized I need to do it now before it’s too late.”

Bluethgen worked with a business broker and looked at a variety of existing businesses, but The Cleaning Authority’s recurring revenue stream from repeat business was an attractive factor of the business. People will want to have their house cleaned over and over again.

“While considering the demographic on Long Island, it made sense to me as a great opportunity,” said Bluethgen.

Backed by a high-tech approach to a low-tech job, Bluethgen said the company’s business model was one of the selling points to invest in The Cleaning Authority.

“One of their impressive features is the software,” he said. “I can better manage my staff and keep track of them. There’s a lot of impressive info and data that is available to franchisees.”

Now, the 47-year-old Smithtown resident is finally his own boss. He said that the feeling of accomplishment is what motivates him to succeed.

“I’m just an average guy trying to make it,” he said. “With this brand, I don’t see how this can go wrong.”

"In my previous life when I was consulting I didn't have near the flexibility of my schedule that I have now. Now after growing the cleaning authority at the point where it is, I coach soccer. We do two practices a week for my girls team. I do one practice a week for my boys team. I can go to any school event that I want to. I can take time to go with teachers. I exercise most every day. I work hard but I can come and go on my own schedule. I no longer have to worry about paying for my children's education and we live a comfortable life and it's fun."

"As a female franchise owner, I've learned that success knows no gender. It's about determination, resilience, and the willingness to learn and adapt."
