Meet Our Franchisee: Shawn Stelmak

July 1, 2016

Shawn Stelmak left a career in finance to pursue a business that would help make the day-to-day lives of others easier. After earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management, Shawn moved into a career in financial services. He has worked for Principal Financial Group, Fidelity Investments and The Newport Group for most of his career.

Shawn lived in Massachusetts for many years before relocating to Kentucky and most recently he moved to Florida to be closer to his family. “Part of the reason I moved to Florida was because I had grandparents, an uncle, and my parents living there,” he said. “It also seems like a better place to be able to retire than the Northeast.”

He joined The Cleaning Authority as a way to provide a service, especially for the snowbird population in the Cape Coral, Florida area. “I found The Cleaning Authority through working with a business consultant,” Shawn said. “While I researched several business options, I thought that a cleaning company was the best fit for the area. The service industry is profitable here, especially since there are many snowbirds who can use help from others with services like home cleaning.”

Shawn enjoys not only helping locals with home cleaning, but also getting to know more about his clients’ lives. He plans to help the community further by partnering with The Cleaning Authority CARES using the business as a platform for collecting items for food drives and participating in Cleaning for a Reason, which provides free house cleanings for women undergoing cancer treatment in the community.

"In my previous life when I was consulting I didn't have near the flexibility of my schedule that I have now. Now after growing the cleaning authority at the point where it is, I coach soccer. We do two practices a week for my girls team. I do one practice a week for my boys team. I can go to any school event that I want to. I can take time to go with teachers. I exercise most every day. I work hard but I can come and go on my own schedule. I no longer have to worry about paying for my children's education and we live a comfortable life and it's fun."

"As a female franchise owner, I've learned that success knows no gender. It's about determination, resilience, and the willingness to learn and adapt."
